United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) twitted that Champions of the Earth will be announced today.
UNEP will introduce six winters of the United Nations' highest environmental accolade, the Champions of the Earth award, during a global conference on biological diversity in Cancún, Mexico today.
The Champions of the Earth award is the United Nations highest environmental honour recognizing visionary people and organizations all over the world that exemplify leadership and advocate action on sustainable development, climate change and a life of dignity for all.
Since being founded twelve years ago, the awards have recognized 78 laureates - ranging from leaders of nations to grassroots activists - in the categories of policy, science, business and civil society.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Ms. Sheikh Hasina, was among six winners of the prize in recognition of Bangladesh's far-reaching initiatives to address climate change.
